ICPA Associate Consultant

Kate Beith

Kate Beith is an International School Safeguarding Consultant, committed to keeping children safe in international schools, bringing extensive experience to her work with Tim Gerrish.

Having worked with Tim for a number of years, Kate has now joined him to offer a range of customised advanced level training for those in international schools leading Safeguarding and with responsibility for child protection. This training is offered for groups of schools across the world and is practical, scenario based and aimed at giving participants the skills and confidence to develop basic and advanced Safeguarding systems. Kate also supports Tim in auditing, working alongside schools to set up systems and supporting allegations with advice and investigation. Her work as an early year’s educator gives her the experience to support Safeguarding in this specialist area for young children.

After studying at Goldsmith’s College, London University, Kate taught in the primary sector in London, Oxford and Surrey. She then became principal of a large early years College where protecting children was at the heart of an outstanding setting which had children on site from four months to eleven years in daycare, early year’s education, a primary school and students from 18 years studying to become early year’s practitioners. During this time Kate consulted internationally with schools in Japan, Germany and the Maldives. From 2007 until 2018 Kate worked for a recognised group of international colleges across China, Korea, Singapore and Myanmar. Most recently Kate completed an MA in ‘Working with children and their families’ at Pen Green Children’s Centre and research base, Leicester University.

As Deputy Director of Schools Kate had responsibility for developing Safeguarding across the international group. Within the challenge of varying contexts, Kate set up rigorous systems for protecting children across colleges which included developing customised training at different levels for all members of the community, a framework for reporting and responsibility for child protection, safer recruitment, managing allegations, auditing and developing mapping tools to ensure support is available according to the context of each school.

Kate has worked extensively with child protection experts in the UK and is a member of the CIS International Child Protection Task Force. Kate developed audit systems to ensure that Safeguarding continued to be at the heart of practice and assured quality across Colleges. She is also experience in leading internal investigations and giving support to Heads leading child protection issues.

Of her work with Tim in developing a higher level of training for Safeguarding Leads, Kate says:

“Tim is a well-known and respected consultant who has partnered with many colleges and international institutions over the years. To support Tim’s philosophy “It could happen here”, I am delighted to work with him in developing this customised advanced training and know that our combined experience will result in professional learning that will really support schools in their individual contexts. Developing Safeguarding is a challenge without established frameworks of support and we aim to give Directors, Principals, Heads and Safeguarding Leads the skills to develop Safeguarding in their schools and colleges, preparing for every eventuality. During these intensive workshops, participants can expect to work through scenarios, explore policy, make connections and above all come away with the skills and knowledge to set up systems that will assure the quality of Safeguarding in their setting”
